blog #1

For my paper that I will be extending,  I have taken one that Ive written for Professor Aaron Rizzieri English class on animal rights. I chose to extend this paper because I feel if I tried harder, I could find more information and expand my thoughts on how I feel about the treatment and mistreatment of animals. I find that we shouldn't mistreat and abuse animals but we should be able to kill them for food. Not everyone would agree that we should kill chickens or cows just because we choose to survive and make a living that way, but some people like me do believe that its okay to kill the common farm animal in order to survive. For my further research, I will take a chance in looking up other peoples opinions on how we treat these popular farm animals such as cows and chickens and if they agree or disagree with our common way of surviving. Ive already gave my opinion in which i believe that its okay to kill cows and chickens and pigs, as long as we are not torturing them.I will also research on how exactly farm animals are treated before they are packed and ready to go. Are they beaten and tortured, or are they slowly and peacefully put to sleep with a needle? My further questions I would like to be answered are:
Do many people agree that animals should have as many rights and humans, and if so, should they be treated equally and have the same amount of rights and us humans do?
Also, should the people who do mistreat animals be put in jail or punished? We may not all agree on how animals should be treated. Vegetarians for instance will disagree that we should kill animals even if they are put peacefully to sleep. My research will extend on the previous research I have already used for this essay, and will include future research and information.

  1. Hi chaisty I really am interested in knowing what kind of data you come up with to support you topic. I believe that you shouldn't mistreat animals either because they are like the rest of us but be able to kill them for us to survive. In my religion you are not allowed to eat any beef in fact we even worship a cow. I don't believe that people should be punished for killing animals to eat and survive but they should be punished if they mistreat animals. well good luck on your paper and If you need more of my opinion for your paper just let me know.

  2. Hey! I like the topic you are writing about. I was in agriculture in hs and we learn how many animals were abused and it was really disturbing. I think you can include what laws were passed to stop animal violence and examples on how animals were mistreated and pictures.

  3. Hey Chasity,
I am interested in reading your paper it seems interesting. I agree with you when you mentioned that people shouldn't be punished for killing animals to survive but only for mistreating them. In society today people eat animals on a daily basis and is part of our lifestyle,On the other hand, animal cruelty such as dog fighting and such should be prohibited. there are different views and opinions on the way people feel about animals and in your paper im going to be looking forward to reading more about it. :)

  4. Hey chasity,

Im glad to see that you agree we should be able to kill farm animals to survive. I feel as though our society has evolved in to one that feels this is wrong. I personally believe chicken, cows, pigs and other farm animals were put here for humans to use for food. I also agree they shouldnt be tortured or treated inhumanely. Plus these animals taste so good!!

  5. Hi Chastity - This is a very "hot topic". I'm going to ask you to narrow this down VERY MUCH. If you browse my older class blogs (on food politics) and look at students blogs linked to it, you 'll see papers on many dimensions of this topic. You could also look at cotton/leather production, pharmaceuticals, etc.

There are SO MANY controversies -here's one: Do we need to eat any animal products for optimal health. Use one to nation's many vegan resources (Vegan Freak, La Vida Vegan, etc) and contrast to thinkers like Weston Price (there is a Weston price Fundation website with info), Nina Planck, Nora Gedgaudis and Liere Keith.
